100 Years!

Salem Clinic turns 100 in 2025. Founded in 1925, Salem Clinic has grown from three founding physicians to group of over 60 medical practitioners, providing medical care to tens of thousands of people in our community each year from four convenient locations in Salem and Keizer.

Look for a new centennial celebration page to be added to the website this Spring.

Occupational Health

Salem Clinic launched an occupational health clinic in the fall of 2024. Dr. Dovhyy brought over ten years of occupational health experience to ensure the immediate success of the endeavor. The Occupational Health Clinic is located at the 1165 Union Street office, which is also home to an Open MRI and other specialty imaging services.

Dr. Dovhyy believes in attentive listening to the needs of his patients. He treats and counsels injured workers about the complex world of the worker compensation insurance coverage, treatment and how to return-to-work safely. His many years of experience help to make the entire process smoother for patients.

Endocrinology Services

Salem Clinic opened the endocrinology services specialty department in the Summer of 2024. The department has specially-trained medical providers to help patients manage a variety of medical issues related to the endocrine system, including: diabetes, metabolic dysfunction, and thyroid disorders. The endocrinology team’s goal is to provide comprehensive and personalized care, to ensure that each patient understands their condition and treatment options. They believe in a collaborative approach to healthcare, and encourage patients to actively participate in their own treatment plan.

The Endocrinology Services team welcomes patients at the 5900 Inland Shores Way office in Keizer.

Medical Assistant Training Program

Salem Clinic welcomed the first cohort of medical assistant students in the Fall of 2024. Salem Clinic partnered with the National Institute for Medical Assistant Advancement (NIMAA) to bring low-cost, high-quality medical assistant training to Salem in effort to combat the ongoing shortage of trained MA’s in the area. The students attend virtual and in-person classes, in addition to gaining 10 hours of hands-on experience in clinical settings each week. The fall cohort will graduate from the program this spring as certified medical assistants, ready for hire.

Award-Winning Healthcare Careers Website

The Salem Clinic Medical Foundation team launched the skhealthcarecareers.org website in the summer of 2023. The site was developed to be a tool for local youth to explore health care career options, by being able to compare and contrast educational requirements, local earning potential, proximity of training programs and other factors. The medical foundation team also performs outreach to local youth through classroom visits, career day presentations and event sponsorships. The Salem Clinic Medical Foundation team proudly received the President’s Award from the Maion-Polk County Medical Society in the winter of 2024 for their efforts to help develop the local healthcare workforce. Their work is ongoing.

Update: The project has won two more awards! Hermes Creative Awards bestowed a Platinum Award for excellence in terms of quality, creativity, and resourcefulness and Oregon PRSA bestowed a Spotlight Award for the community relations campaign for the site launch.

MRI & MRI Safety at Salem Clinic

Salem Clinic has offered magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) since 2009. MRI is a noninvasive way for your healthcare provider to examine your organs, tissues and skeletal system through high-resolution images. MRI can aide in the diagnosis of a variety of problems. MRI is a technique that uses a magnetic field and radio waves to create detailed images of the organs and tissues within your body.

The MRI machine at Salem Clinic is a large, tube-shaped magnet. When you lie inside an MRI machine, the magnetic field temporarily realigns hydrogen atoms in your body. Radio waves cause these aligned atoms to produce signals, which are used to create cross-sectional MRI images, like slices in a loaf of bread.

Why should you care about MRI safety? An MRI machine is a large magnet. Magnets pull ferrous materials (metals that contain iron) toward themselves with great force. The MRI machine at Salem Clinic features a 1.5T magnet. The "T" stands for Tesla, a standard unit of measure for magnetic strength. This is three hundred times stronger than a standard magnet, at 50 microtesla, used to hold a photo to your refrigerator at home. The magnetic force exerted on a metallic object increases exponentially as it nears the MRI machine. For example, a common wrench in your hand may jiggle a little at fifteen feet from the magnet, but it would be pulled from your grip and take flight from three feet away. When ferromagnetic objects fly toward a magnet it is called a missile effect, as the projectile is drawn to the magnet with considerable force. As you can imagine, this strong magnetic field can become dangerous if not properly managed.
