Christian A. Devaux, DO

Originally from California, I graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a degree in bio-chemistry. I also did coursework in the graduate program in public health at San Diego State University. Among the highlights of my secondary school and university years were mentoring at-risk youth, caring for developmentally disabled adults, and volunteering on healthcare missions in Mexico.

I graduated from the Kirksville School of Osteopathy and did my first year of residency at Keesler Air Force Base Hospital in Biloxi, Mississippi, where my family, including our dog, experienced three hurricanes; one of which was Katrina. I completed my residency in internal medicine at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego and was then stationed at the US Air Force Hospital at Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage, Alaska. During the next four years, which included a tour in Iraq, I took care of retired military, active-duty service men and women and their families. My wife, son, and I were able to enjoy wonders of nature such as the Northern Lights, Denali National Park, and visits from a moose who came right up to the window of our house on the base. Moose and bears were common sightings, even within walking distance from our house. On one occasion, while jogging, I was even chased by a moose!!

It took only one visit to Salem to convince us that this was the place where we wanted to settle! We had just moved here when our daughter was born, so I am the father of a Salem native. We love the city and the surrounding area. We have enjoyed vacationing at the Columbia River, Crater Lake, and Deschutes National Forest. I work out daily (calisthenics), do woodworking, run with our dog, play guitar and enjoy hiking and camping with my family. I speak French and Spanish, I am active in my church, and am interested in intercultural dialogue and encounters.
